Neighbors Caring for Neighbors

A quick stop for needed groceries…
A timely ride to the doctor’s office…
A friendly visit to insure that all is well at home…
A helping hand with yard work when winter finally leaves…
A companionable ride in the countryside to lighten the monotony of time…

Welcome

These are the many ways that North Dakota Faith in Action (FIA) program volunteers are going the distance, lending a hand, giving from the heart, and supporting the families of our elderly friends and neighbors.

For over ten years the volunteers of Faith in Action have had a presence and made a difference in the lives of elderly and disabled North Dakotans. Each year, thousands of hours of care giving services are provided to hundreds of North Dakota citizens directly where they live – at home - at absolutely no cost to them.

The Faith in Action Northern Plains network is a collaboration of FIA programs located throughout the state that provide volunteer care giving services for individuals in need. Funded by a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation grant our mission is to provide trained volunteers to perform daily tasks for senior citizens and those with disabilities to help them remain independent in their homes for a longer period of time.

Without the “Neighbors Caring for Neighbors” Program that each Faith in Action program provides, rural North Dakota communities would lose many valuable connections for their elderly friends and neighbors. Many communities have few available resources to help the rapidly expanding elderly population maintain an independent lifestyle. The Faith in Action Northern Plains collaborative supports and publicizes volunteer caregiving programs that work to reduce the number of individuals who lack assistance with daily living needs. With the provision of FIA volunteer services, often in the form of transportation, essential connections within communities are maintained and often gaps in available services are bridged. These connections and the relationships that form as a result aid our elderly neighbors in their independence.
